Reviews for Rui - Bath BA2 6NY
Review highlights
Based on 176 reviewsRui is widely recognized for its commitment to authentic Chinese cuisine, particularly Szechuan dishes, distinguishing itself from more commercialized counterparts. Reviewers consistently highlight the freshness of ingredients and the balance of flavors, avoiding the overly oily or processed qualities often associated with Chinese fast food. The restaurant offers dual menus catering separately to local tastes and traditional Chinese preferences, providing both familiar and adventurous options. While the atmosphere can feel quiet or subdued, especially during off-peak hours, the generous portions and well-executed dishes maintain its appeal. Customers appreciate the genuine culinary experience, often noting it as a rare find for authentic Chinese food outside major metropolitan areas. Overall, Rui garners positive feedback for its quality, authenticity, and diverse menu, catering to a broad audience while preserving the essence of traditional Chinese cooking.
Great "Authentic Chinese" restaurant. Serves proper fresh Chinese food, like you'd find in Soho, London. It's not "Speedy Wok Co" from scumthorpe, frying up MSG ridden chicken in diesel oil. I know some other Brits get confused when they taste real food for a change.
Their cuisines tasted very good. The raw materials were fresh. The options are abundant. I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a try of Chinese cuisine.
The best Chinese food we've had in a while. We went early on a Monday night and it was empty and depressing and we almost gave up because it looked closed. But the ingredients were fresh and not too oily or processed like a lot of Chinese food. I suspect it caters to larger Chinese tour groups. Note that they have two menus: one for "British people" and one for Chinese. The Chinese one has more things and also pictures and English descriptions so be sure to ask for that.
One of the rarest Chinese in the country that keeps to the authentic taste of Szechuan cusine. They have two menus available, one that is authentic Szechuan and one that is anglicize so if you're craving for some English comforts like Aromatic Duck and Chicken Satay, they do a decent job But the star of the place is definitely the Szechuan dishes. The food comes out hot, generous and tasty. Szechuan cusine is known for being "loud" in flavours so expect your palette to be challenged! The lady of the house takes cares of her customers very well. Special commendation to her
Been wanting to try this place since I saw the video of Marco PW reviewing it eating here on Instagram. It was a weekday lunchtime, I was the only visitor. There’s a deal for one person set menu. 26 gets you any two starters, any main plus any rice or noodle dish. The food was excellent, absolute perfection. I wish I had been more adventurous as there are so many interesting dishes on the menu. I will be coming back and bringing a group next time.
this place is my favourite for Chinese takeaway and I order regularly. the food is always delicious and they have a lot of different options! Im never going to a different Chinese food place :)
Rui remains the best place in Bath for Chinese. It no longer serves hotpot and it no longer is as vibrant as before COVID but here's to hoping they can pick up. I always love the food here. It's scrumptious. And that's putting it lightly. I had fish for the first time and it was so good.
Great service & environment. The food was delicious, couldn’t ask for more xx
